Lagos State government dropped charges against Naira Marley

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday dropped all charges against Popular Nigerian Hip Hop Musician Azeez Fashola popularly referred to as Naira Marley, as well as Babatunde Gbadamosi and his wife Folashade Gbadamosi.

Naira Marley and the Gbadamosi’s were to be arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos, the arraignment is not unconnected with the house party held at the residence of Nollywood Actress Funke Akindele thereby flouting the COVID-19 orders at a time the country is fighting to get rid of the pandemic

The State Government however decided against persecuting the trio having fulfilled all righteousness since the arrest of the Chief Culprit Funke Akindele.

However, they were asked to make a public apology to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu and Nigerians, they are also to self isolate themselves for 14 days after which they are expected to return to court.

They were also told to sign an undertaking that they would comply with the COVID-19 regulations.

The magistrate court in Ogba has also requested for paper works to be completed tomorrow between the Lagos State Government and the defendants for the case to be cancelled.

While Gbadamosi and his wife were arrested, Naira Marley complied with the Lagos State Police command by submitting himself to the state CID in Yaba.

The House Party violated the “Stay At Home” order of the Federal Government as well as the social distancing gospel of the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control NCDC as well as the Ministry of health as the fight against Coronavirus continues.

Funke Akindele and her husband known as JJC Skills pleaded guilty in court and were each fined 100,000 naira each, 

The court also sentenced them to 14 days of community service.

It ruled that the couple “shall visit 10 important public places within Lagos State to educate the public on the consequences of non-compliance with the restriction order.”

Naira Marley is not new to police and court cases, recalled he was arrested in 2019 alongside his friend and rap artiste Zlatan Ibile for alleged involvement in cyber crimes, he was subsequently released after been detained by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission EFCC
